Black Hills Fox News - KEVN - June 28, 2008 Firefighters from RC area on their way to CA to battle wildfires Original Article Six volunteer firefighters from the Rapid City area are on their way to California tonight to help fight the wildfires raging there. They left this afternoon, driving two trucks equipped with the latest firefighting technology manufactured by a Rapid City company. The trucks have on board the new fire-gel application equipment produced by "Dakota Fire". The trucks will be used to provide protection for homes and other valuable structures. The company says the equipment will be used for the first time in California, and it hopes to sell more of the gel application machinery to the state's fire agencies as a result of the workout it will get there. Jody Sperlich: "Gordon has used this equipment before. And then we clearly saw the opportunity that these systems can offer to all fire departments. So that's why we started manufacturing them and that's our hope that, especially with the tragic situation that California finds itself in every summer. They are buying 100 new engines." The Pennington Fire Board has already approved the purchase of the gel application equipment for the county. The firefighters will be driving all night tonight, and all through tomorrow. They are scheduled to report for duty in California tomorrow night. |
